I have just updated my iPhone with iOS 4.2 and ran into a nasty problem: all my carrier settings were lost! While you can restore them manually, a really annoying beast returned: the active diverts dialogue. I am using the iPhone with Vodafone in Germany which finally sent out a carrier update in October and now it came back to hit me.
I figured out a simple solution: tell iTunes to reinstall the carrier settings.
– Close iTunes and disconnect the phone
Select from the Start menu -> Run -> C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Select from the Start menu -> Run -> C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
– Open the Terminal application
– type (without the “) “/Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes -setPrefInt carrier-testing 1” and hit enter, iTunes will start up
– Connect the phone again, iTunes will prompt you with a dialogue to reinstall the settings
This has worked fine for my iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1. I tried to execute the same on an iPhone 3G running 3.1.3 and it did not work.
